Chapped Lips

Author: Team Happy Soul April 11, 2020

The skin on our lips is much more delicate than that on other parts of the body and have low barrier function when exposed to elements such as sun and cold, dry air, making them prone to dryness, cracking, flaking, and peeling.

Start with exfoliation

When your lips are dry and chapped, the skin can begin to lift and flake. Gently exfoliating your lips can remove dead skin cells that can otherwise prevent your lip balm from reaching and moisturizing the new skin underneath the flaky areas.

You can try our organic lips scrubs or make your own with ingredients you probably have at home. You’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp. of an exfoliating ingredient, such as coconut sugar or Sea salt
  • 1 tbsp. of Organic honey or Organic Coconut oil Or Organic Olive oil

To make the lip scrub:

  1. Combine the exfoliating ingredient (salt or sugar) and emollient (oil or honey) in a bowl or container.
  2. Dip a cotton swab into the scrub.
  3. Apply in a circular motion to your lips using gentle pressure.
  4. Gently wipe off using a damp washcloth.

Once your lips have been exfoliated, apply one of the following home remedies to help soothe, moisturize, and protect your chapped lips.
